A 72-year-old Hmong tribe mountaineer was arrested for raping his 18-year-old stepdaughter for 9 years. He confessed that a rare sex herb he grows high in the mountains made him desire sex several times daily. But his wife was too old to satisfy his needs, so he raped his stepdaughter.

On February 27, 2013, the arrest of a Hmong gardener for repeatedly raping his stepdaughter was announced at the big meeting room of the Center of Detection and Investigation, police section 5. The announcement was made by Pol. Maj. Gen. Chamnarn Ruadrew, Deputy Commissioner; Pol. Col. Chinnavit Vichaithanaphat, Deputy Commander; Pol. Col. Veerachon Boonthawee, Superintendent; together with the detective police team, section 5.

The suspect rapist was identified as Mr. Deu Saesong, age 72, a mountaineer of the Hmong tribe. He was arrested by officers from the Center of Protecting the Right of Children and Women, police section 5.

Mr. Deu is charged with “raping a child age not over age 15 who is not his wife whether the child consented or not and made the other person afraid by threatening,” according to the arrest warrant of Chiang Mai provincial court, dated February 19, 2013.

The police arrested the suspect after receiving a complaint from the Cheevitmai foundation, that a new 18-year-old girl at their shelter had been continually raped by her stepfather since she was 9 years old. Because of the sexual abuse, the girl has a mental disorder and slow development. She also would complain of pain in her sexual organ every time she went back home to visit.

The police went to investigate and questioned the girl, “Ms. A”(alias), age 18. She said she was repeatedly raped by her stepfather, Mr. Deu, who had fed her since she was a 1 year old. But when she was about 9 years old, her stepdad began raping her and continued to rape her until her present age of 18.

Ms. A told police that when she was living at home and her mother was in the house, Mr. Deu would persuade her to help him outside with the gardening work. Then Mr. Deu would forcibly rape her until he reached a climax. He would give her 20 THB afterwards and forbid her to tell her mother about the incident.

Ms. A said she was continually being raped for 9 years, until she could not endure it any longer, so she escaped to stay with the foundation. She would only go back home to visit on holidays. But each time she returned home she would be raped by her stepfather, until the foundation brought her to notify the police.

After his arrest, Mr. Deu confessed to the rape accusation. He said he is a gardener and grows the herb “Soe Kui Mun,” which is difficult to find and grows on the high mountain. The rare herb has the ability to increase sexual motivation, Mr. Deu said.

Although he is 72 years old, Mr. Deu said that because of the herb, he has sexual needs every day and must have sex several times per day. But his wife is too old and cannot satisfy his needs. So Mr. Deu had raped his stepdaughter for a long time to release his sexual emotion.

After each time, he gave his stepdaughter 20 THB for her not to tell his wife, until he was arrested by the police.
