BANGKOK, 11 March 2012 - The Internal Trade Department is pushing ahead with its campaign to offer reasonably-priced ready-to-eat food to Thai consumers across the country.
Internal Trade Department Director-General Vachari Vimooktayon revealed on Saturday that the department is pursuing the “Blue Flag” food shop campaign, after Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom has assigned it to resolve the problem of rising prices of ready-to-eat food. Mrs. Vachari said that the “Blue Flag” campaign is set to offer ‘quality’ ready food with reasonable portion and price of THB25-30 per serving to consumers.
Under this campaign, the Internal Trade Department plans to open as many as 8,000 “Blue Flag” food shops across Thailand, with 1,000 in Bangkok and nearby provinces alone.
She said that, so far, 720 shops have been opened in Greater Bangkok area and some 3,500 of them are operational throughout the country.
The Internal Trade Department Director-General said that more budgets will be requested from the Cabinet to help it accomplish the goal.
