Chonburi Immigration officers arrested two Russians charged with theft in upscale Pattaya hotels. The duo had a bizarre behaviour of taking pictures with the stolen goods. Additional evidence was provided by the security cameras of the hotels.
Pattaya, January 19, 2012 [PDN]; Col. Chusak Mansamporn, Bureau of Immigration ,Chonburi team arrested Mr.Denis Skvortsov aged 31 and Ms. Antonina Pavlova 23-year-old both Russian citizens charged with stealing Thai, US dollars, Euro and other currencies, credit cards, smart phones, watches, digital cameras and perfume. The value of the stolen goods approximately one million THB.
Col. Chusak Mansamporn and Pol.Lt.Col.Prapansak had been following the two Russians and compiling evidence before the arrest warrant was issued.
For example there was CCTV footage from Bella Express.
The immigration police caught them as they were trying to leave Thailand via Pong Nam Ron border crossing in Chantaburi province and they were brought to their hotel where the police found more evidence.
Their modus operandi was the following Ms. Pavlova would meet a hotel guest. Go his room and have sex.
Once in the hotel room she would steal the room key and hand it over to Mr.Skvortsov who would come in later and steal the hotel guests belongings. Or Ms. Pavlova would steal selected items herself.
Another method was to rent a room and wait for the cleaning staff to arrive at the neighbouring room. Then then the duo would pretend to occupy the room. Take a shower and ask the hotel staff to open the safe.
After the two Russians had stolen enough money, credit cards, watches and jewelry they flew to Hong Kong or Singapore. Stayed low for a while and came back to steal from more innocent tourists visiting Pattaya.
The duo is charged with theft and awaiting prosecution.
