2 Large Resorts In Taplan National Park Bulldozed In The Night

The Director-General of National Park division and his team demolished two large resorts which were illegally constructed in Taplan National Park, Korat province. It operation took place during the night.

The Director General will notifie the 152 resorts that still encroach Taplan forest in the mid of January according to the law. The officials are concerned that after Wang Nam Kheaw-Taplan there will be more illegal land encroachement Khao Yai National Park.

The local people of Amphur Wang Nam Kheaw, Nakornratchasima (Korat) province closed road number 304 and asked National Park Division, Natural Resource and the Environment Ministry to stop demolishing the nine resorts of Taplan National Park and demanded to negotiate with Ms. Yingluck Shinnawatra, the Prime Minister and Mr. Damrong Pidetch, the Director-General of the National Park division. They also caused heavy traffic jams on the road number 304 on December 19, 2011.

December 20, 2011 Mr. Damrong Pidetch, the Director-General of National Park division arrived at Taplan National Park and joined the meeting to implement the demolision of the nine resorts especially the large resort Klongkrating Country View Resort with 87 cottages in an area of 122 rais and Baan Rai Kullawanich 19 cottages in an area of 57 rais.

Mr. Thevin Meesab, the head of Taplan National Park and the members of the group discussed the issue for 40 minutes. At 01:44 hrs Mr. Damrong informed all the officers that they should operate according to the law. Then they divided the teams into two groups to demolish the two large resorts.

At 02:31 the first officer had arrived at the entrance of the resort he found three teenagers had set up a tent to prevent the officers to enter the resort. They resisted but the officers negotiated and asked them to move. Finally the teenagers let the officers enter. The officers seized three radio communication sets and entered to demolish the two story building a with a meeting room, a karaoke lounge and bed rooms.

Before the demolition all the furniture; closets, beds etc. were given to the owner. For demolition a back hoe was used. During the demolition a young local guy drove his pick truck into the resort to see the operation demolishing operation and complained, asking, why the officers came to demolish sooner than the announcement. The officer said that they had informed the locals months prior to the demolition. The date and the time of the demolition.

Later at 03:10 hrs the second officer team had demolished the second resort 20 km from the first resort using two back hoes and two tractors, for the job. One person from the resort came to see the demolition and said that it was sad that the National Park division didn’t give them the time to move out their property, their belongins. The officer said that they had been given so much time and this operation is according to the court order.

The area national park area of Wang Nam Kheaw has suffered lot from illegal land encroachment and the next may be Khao Yai National Park. Therefore the National Park division will do its outmost to protect the land for the future generations.
