A Chiangmai Bus Hits LPG Pump 8 Dead 50 people Injured

A Chiangmai-Bangkok bus collides with the fence of a LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) pump in Lampang province. Eight passengers die and 50 are severely injured. Police assumes that the driver fell asleep.

Lampang, December 7, 2011[PDN]; The Lampang Police was notified via 191 emergency call that a long distance bus had overturned and there were dead and many injured. The accident occurred in front of a LPG pump, Pongkham Gas at km 621 in Baan Ta Pha Moo 5, Tambon Mae Pa, Thern district, Lampang province. Pol. Lt. Col. Anek Uttama, Thern police station and ambulance team rushed to the scene with rescue equipment.

At the accident they found an air conditioned tour bus belonging to Newviriya Yanyont Co., Ltd. plying the route Chiangmai-Bangkok , license number 10-2932 Chiangmai.

The bus had collided with the fence of the LPG pump and overturned in front of the pump. The vehicle was severely damaged, inside the bus the injured were screaming for help.

The rescue team delivered all the injured to Thern hospital and nearby hospitals. There were totally 59 people injured.

Upon inspection 8 dead were found including the driver. The bodies of the deceased 4 women and 4 men were inside the bus. The rescue team used heavy duty equipment to extract the dead bodies out of the bus.

The police assumes that the accident probably occurred because the driver fell asleep. Fortunately the bus collided with the fence of gasoline pump and not the LPG pump.

The police coordinated with rescue team to have the bus forklifted. All the corpses were taken the hospital. The relatives will be contacted accordingly to pick up the dead bodies.
