PATTAYA – December 25, 2012 [PDN]; A gala ceremony was held at Bali Hai pier for the traditional switiching on of the Christmas tree lights. Joining together for the ceremony were Mr. Sonthaya Khunpluem, the minister of culture ministry; Mr.Komsan Ekachai, the governor of Chonburi province; Mr. Rewat Pollukin, vice president of the provincial administrative organization of Chonburi; Mr. Ittipol Khumpluem, the Lord Mayor of Pattaya; and Mr.Atthapol Wannakit, the director of tourism authority of Thailand, Pattaya office.
The Christman lighting ceremony that begins the Pattaya Countdown festival was witnessed by a great number of residents and tourists. Traffic on Beach Road was near gridlock most of the night. All manner of vehicles were creeping along like slugs, while the motobikers zipped between them like bugs. The sidewalks were swarming with people cruising down the narrow aisle between vendor booths jammed together on the sidewalks.
Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunpluem said that the Pattaya Countdown 2013, has been the top vote getter by tourists around the world as the desired place to be in Thailand during the week preceding the New Year.
Pattaya’s week-long festival, which began from Christmas and goes until New Year’s Eve, has an enviable standard that is considered a highlight of Thailand, to be promoted around the world by foreign news agencies.
The official theme of the COUNTDOWN 2013 was declared as a “CELEBRATION FOR ALL.” The format was created to spotlight colorful events and activities, and aims to be the greatest and biggest celebration of the year in Pattaya, as an event that everybody had been waiting for.
Organizers are focused on entertaining everybody, and making everyone feel that they were part of the ceremony together. It began on December 25 and will last until December 31 for a total of 7 days and nights of celebrating, to assure that Pattaya has the greatest New Year’s Countdown in Thailand.
Following highlights after the first day of the event will be fireworks displays, and performances from artists such as Kala, Playground, Crescendo, Stamp Aphiwat, Palmy, Nstinct, Moderndog, Pang Nakarin, Shin Shinnawut, Thaitanium, Big Ass, Buddha Bless, Hun-Grand, and Dome Kangsom The Star.
