LAMPANG – August 2,2012 [PDN]; Pol. Col. Thanakorn Khumwong, director of Muang Lampang police station, reported an attempted kidnapping of a female driver.
On August 1, Ms. Wannisa Wongtheermongkok, from Kratumban Samutsakorn, was sitting in her car parked in front of Lampang jail, waiting for her boyfriend who had been imprisoned.
A tall and light-skinned man suddenly entered her car and sat in the back passenger seat, and trapped her head in a headlock. He forced her to start driving to Phitsanulok, telling her that he was running from a drug-dealing gang.
But Ms. Wannisa broke free and ran out of the car while they were stopped at the junction in front of Wat Prabat airport community in Prabat, Muang Lampang municipality. Several bystanders came to her aid while the man escaped.
While investigating the case, police found a blue Honda Wave motorcycle, registration code Khor Chor Jor 282 Lampang, that was linked to the kidnapper. The police traced the registered owner and arrested him. He was identified as Mr. Peeradej Sodsupha, 27, living in Searmkwa Sermngam Lampang.
However, Mr. Peeradej told police he had not committed the crime, and the criminal was his acquaintance who lived in the same district, Mr. Ammarit Meesawat, 28, who had borrowed his motorbike.
The police are tracking Mr. Ammarit and expect to arrest him within a few days.
Police suspect he was high on drugs when committing the crime. He will be charged with detaining other people by using force.
