SATTAHIP – August 2, 2012 [PDN]; At 1 a.m., Pol. Lt. Saijai Khamjulla, investigation officer, Sattahip police station, Chonburi province; was notified that two groups of men were fighting and shots had been fired. He rushed to the scene with Pol. Col. Chonnapat Nawalak, Superintendent, Sattahip police station; along with officers from the police inspection and detection forces.
The fight occurred in front of Samira restaurant in Virakorn village Moo 3, Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province. The area contains about 10 karaoke shops and restaurants.
At the scene, police found 10 men separated into two sides, apparently drunk and still trying to fight each other. Police stopped the fighting, and arrested the suspected gunman, Mr. Prajuab Puchanasri, 30.
Mr. Prajuab had used a 9mm Beretta 92 FS handgun to fire two shots at his adversaries, but no one was hit. The gun had been taken from his hand during the fight by Mr. Boonchai Wanwijit, 22, of Khonkaen province. Mr. Boonchai then ran away with the gun and escaped into the forest.
Along with Mr. Prajuab, police also arrested Mr. Pairat Ineam, 27, as the primary suspects. Both men and the other fight participants were taken to the Sattahip police station.
Pol. Col. Chonnapat Nawalak said that after police left the scene, Mr. Boonchai came to the police station to give Mr. Prajuab’s gun to the police. He was bleeding from his body and also had a wound on his head.
Mr. Boonchai told police that he and his four friends had travelled from Khonkaen province to see their friend in Amphur Sattahip, but didn’t meet him. So they went to eat at Samira restaurant. But six local men at the restaurant began to quarrel with them. Suddenly Mr. Prajuab threw a glass of liquor at Mr. Boonchai, cutting his head.
The two groups then began fighting outside the restaurant. Then Mr. Prajuab took out his gun from a bag, and fired the gun twice, but did not hit anyone. Mr. Boonchai then wrestled the gun from his hand and escaped into the forest. Later Mr. Boonchai emerged from the forest and asked people nearby to take him to the Sattahip police station.
After hearing testimony and gathering evidence, the police charged Mr. Prajuab and Mr. Pairat with trying to kill others and bringing a gun into a public place without permission.
