PATTAYA – August 1, 2012 [PDN]; At 6:50 a.m., Pol. Lt. Col. Chalermkiert Sirimak, investigation officer, Pattaya police station, Dongtarn Curve sub branch, Chonburi province, was notified that a young woman had committed suicide by hanging herself.
Her body was found hanging outside the balcony of her 7th floor room in the 20-story Thepprasit condominium building 1, Moo 12 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.
He rushed to the scene with the police team and the rescue officer Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation. At room number 450/183, police discovered that other people had already brought the body back into the room.
The suicide victim was identified as Ms. Ornanong Janplaeng or “Ning,” age 21, address 174 Moo 8 Tambon Koodhae, Amphur Na Klang, Nongbualumphoo province.
Her boyfriend was sitting beside the body and crying. He was identified as Mr. Kwanchai Khantham, 28, address 10 Soi 4, Suandokmai road, Tambon Suthep, Amphur Muang Chiangmai, Chiangmai province. Mr. Kwanchai is an architect.
Before hanging herself, Ms. Ornanong had cooked a dish of Pad Thai with shrimp for her boyfriend. She also wrote a farewell letter to Mr. Kwanchai to explain her sadness. She asked him to forgive her, and to eat the Pad Thai with shrimp, his favorite food. Police held the note for evidence.
Police questioned Mr. Ariya Khamwang, 30, a friend of Ms. Ornanong who was the first to reach her body. Shortly before incident, Mr. Ariya said he had received an urgent phone call from Mr. Kwanchai, his close friend, who asked Mr. Ariya to check if Ms. Ornanong was still in her room.
Mr. Kwanchai told his friend that they just had a big quarrel, and Ms. Ornanong had said over the phone that she was going to commit suicide. Mr. Kwanchai was afraid that Ms. Ornanong would kill herself before he could reach her in time, so he called Mr. Ariya.
Mr. Ariya then hurried to Ms. Ornanong’s room and knocked the door but no one answered. So Mr. Ariya called Mr. Kwanchai to hurry back to see his girlfriend.
Meanwhile, another tenant who lived on the lower floor informed Mr. Ariya that a woman was hanging from her neck outside the balcony. So Mr. Ariya thought that Ms. Ornanong had committed suicide, so he destroyed the door of her room and entered her apartment.
He discovered that Ms. Ornanong had tied a clothesline around her neck and then jumped off the balcony. He called the security guard to help bring the body of Ms. Ornanong back into the room, but she had already died. They then notified the police.
Mr. Kwanchai sadly told police that he and his girlfriend had lived together for 3 years, but they had relationship problems and recently had a big argument. He had moved out and was living in another apartment. Ms. Ornanong had told him she will go back to live with her relatives at Rayong province. So he decided to end his relationship with her.
However, that morning when his girlfriend called, he didn’t pick up the phone. So she left a voice message saying that she was going to die, and asked him to come back to eat Pad Thai, his favorite food, which she had cooked. She also asked him to forgive her.
When he heard the message, Mr. Kwanchai rushed back to see her. On the way he called Mr. Ariya to hurry and try to check on her first, since he lived in the same building. But they were too late to reach her in time.
With shock and great sadness, Mr.Kwanchai told police that he never thought that his girlfriend would commit suicide. Mr. Kwanchai showed police the phone message that Ms. Ornanong had sent to him, and when police checked Ms. Ornanong’s mobile phone, they found it was the same message.
The police made notes for evidence, and summarized the cause of this incident as Ms. Ornanong’s being severely depressed over the end of her relationship with her boyfriend, so she committed suicide.
The police let the rescue officer take Ms. Ornanong’s body to Banglamung hospital to perform an autopsy, before her relatives were allowed to pick up the body to perform religious rites.
