PATTAYA – July 21, 2012 [PDN]; At 3 a.m., the rescue officer and the rescue team of the Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation, Chonburi province, went to inspect with a near drowning of a Thai woman at the beach opposite to the “Best Friend” bar complex at Moo 10 Tambon Nong Preu, AmphurBanglamung, Chonburi province.
The rescuers found Ms. Oy, 45, of Chiangmai province, wet with sea water and severely drunk. She had gone to swim about 50 meters from the beach and almost drowned, but onlookers were assisting her, along with her friend and foreign boyfriend, who were worriedly asking her about her symptoms.
Ms. Oy’s Thai friend said that before incident occurred they went to the pub on Walking Street, but Ms. Oy drank a lot of liquor until she got severely drunk and had a quarrel with her British boyfriend. Ms. Oy disappeared for a while, until people informed them that Ms. Oy was swimming in the sea, and it looked like she had tried to commit suicide and almost drowned. Fortunately, people had rushed to assist her and brought her up from the sea. Ms. Oy’s friend hurried to see her, but her boyfriend was still angry so he didn’t come at first.
The rescue officer tried to transport Ms. Oy to the hospital for treatment because Ms. Oy was still drunk and was choked with sea water that she had swallowed in her near drowning. But Ms. Oy insisted that she wanted to go to the hospital with her friends and not the rescue team, so the officers retreated.
The cause of this incident was presumed to be Ms. Oy getting severely drunk and upset after quarreling with her boy friend, so she went to swim in the sea to make him feel concerned about her. But in her drunken state she could barely swim and almost drowned until witnesses helped save her life.
