SATTAHIP – July 16, 2012 [PDN]; At 12 p.m., officers at the Sattahip police station, Chonburi province, were notified that a thief stole property in the Saeng Thong gold shop, address 429/4, Sattahip Market, Moo 2 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.
At the scene, police found a young woman being restrained by the gold shop owners, Mr. Jaroon Peanpattanavit, 59, and Mrs. Sasithorn Peanpattanavit, 57. The defendant, Ms. Ammarat Sammana, 23, had switched a 1 THB gold necklace with a fake 1 THB necklace and tried to escape.

Mrs. Sasithorn told police that the defendant said she wanted to buy a 1 THB weight gold necklace, then switched necklaces while examining the real necklace. She then told Mrs. Sasithorn that she had to withdraw money from ATM machine. But Mrs. Sasithorn realized that the gold necklace had been switched, so she ran after Ms. Ammarat and caught her.
“After I captured the thief I felt pity for her and forgave her, but the thief called me ‘aunt,’ so I got angry that she thought that I am old, so I changed my mind to prosecute her,” Mrs. Sasithorn said.
Ms. Ammarat confessed to police that she wanted to sell the gold necklace in order to get cash to buy lottery tickets. Initially, the police will prosecute her on charges of snatching and fleeing with stolen property.
