Samui Island: German Dies of Heart Attack Watching UEFA Soccer Match

A German citizen aged 71 died of a heart attack while watching the UEFA European Championship Germany-Portugal match.

SURATTHANI – June 10, 2012 [PDN]; Pol. Sub. Lt. Issaret Samneangwan, Koh Samui police station, Suratthani province was notified of a foreigner who had died in Santithani Project Village, Koh Samui island.

At the scene; a one story house, in the bathroom the police found the dead body of Mr. Helmut Gunther age 71, German nationality, the owner of the house. The police found no trace of violence.

After questioning Mr. Helmut’s German wife, she said that, Mr. Helmut was suffering from a heart disease. On the night of his death, he was watching the UEFA European Football Championship 2012 match German versus Portugal.

As he was watching the match, getting very excited he began to have symptoms of short breath. Moments later he took his heart medicine and walked to the bathroom where he collapsed on the floor and died.

The police will send the corpse of Mr. Gunther to Koh Samui hospital for an autopsy. The German embassy has been informed accordingly.
