PATTAYA – May 26, 2012 [PDN]; Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Jarong Changreun, Banglamung police station, the head of Baan Nawang sentry box together with volunteer police extrajudicially killed a thief who fired his gun at the police while escaping from arrest after committing a robbery.
One thief died of a gun wound and the other one escaped. The incident occurred at Soi Dharma Institute, Khao Songpeenong, Banglamung, Chonburi province.
Pol. Col. Somneuk Jankate, Superintendent, a doctor from Banglamung hospital and the Sawangboribul rescue team were notified.
At the scene of the shooting about 100 meter from the beginning of the Soi the police found many people standing and looking at the dead thief.
The police inspected the body the unknown man, age about 18-25 years. Thin, dark-reddish skin color, wearing a blue shirt, short sleeves and blue jeans. Around his neck a Buddha image. No shoes on his feet.
Beside the dead man on the the street, two caliber 9 mm shell casings and further away one black helmet and a pair of black sneakers. Later the police also discovered eight more 9 mm shell casings which were kept for evidence.
Upon inspecting the corpse the doctor confirmed that the thief was shot in the back and the fatal bullet had penetrated the heart.
The police did not found any documents on the body, only a mobile phone and cash. Money that the dead thief had robbed from the victims.
At the scene the police found Mrs. Bai Yunok, age 50 and Ms. Somjit Nonthong, age 40 and their friends. All waiting to talk to the police.
Upon questioning Mrs. Bai, one of the the victims said that, before the shooting occurred she and her two friends were walking home from the local vegetable market.
Suddenly, two thieves riding on a motorbike appeared. The man at the handle bar was fat and the passenger was thin wearing a helmet to hide his face.
The suspects rode past them, parked at their bike and began staring at the woman in a threatening manner and the thin thief stole the women’s belongings: one gold necklace with a ruby, one mobile phone and cash; hundreds of THB.
Thereafter they swiftly vanished on their motorbike. The women rushed to notify the police in order to have the thieves arrested.
The police said that, one of the officers; Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Jarong Changreun, the head of Baan Nawang sentry box was notified about the armed robbery so he mobilised the forces of the volunteer police to wait for the thieves at the beginning of the Soi.
When the two robbers arrived on their motorbike at high speed an officer shouted at to stop but the suspects refused and pulled their guns and started shooting at the police.
In self protection the police fired back. One of the bullets hit the thin robber who fell off the bike and died.
The fatal shot was fired by the volunteer police Apichart Boonnoi. The fat accomplice on the motorbike escaped.
Pol. Col. Somneuk Jankate, Superintendent has commanded a full investigation in to the deadly shooting since the police and volunteer police extrajudicially killed the thief.
All the evidence is from the shooting will investigated and an autopsy will be performed.
Pattaya plainclothes police are searching for the fat thief who escaped after his accomplice was shot through the heart. Once he is caught he will prosecuted according to the law.
