Share
A Norwegian and his Thai wife were driving their Toyota Fortuner back home after a dinner in Pattaya. The Norwegian happened to cut off a Vigo pickup truck. The Toyota Vigo driver got angry and pulled out a 11 mm pistol and fired at the Fortuner. One of the bullets hit the Norwegian's wife. She survived.

PATTAYA – May 19, 2012 [PDN]; Pol. Lt. Sirachat Nootate, Pattaya police, Chonburi province was notified by Ms. Khanittha Harnnongsang, age 33, who had a bullet wound in her upper left arm.

Upon investigation Mrs. Khanittha, the injured said that before the incident, her husband, Mr.Morten Karres drove their Toyota Fortuner, white color, license number DOR THOR-5131 Bangkok en route home after a dinner in Pattaya at 22:30 hrs.

At a traffic signal in South Pattaya, Sukhumvit road, a Toyota Vigo with unknown license number, came up and cut them off. So it started. Mr.Morten, his Fortuner and the Vigo started cutting off each other along the way.

Mrs. Khannitha told her husband to slow down and not to challenge the pickup truck anymore so her husband slowed down and let the Vigo pickup pass.

At the next traffic lights near Soi Khaotalo, as the Vigo was in the left lane, the Fortuner in the middle lane. The gunman lowered the window and fired several shots. One of the bullets hit Khun Khanitha’s left arm. Mr.Morten quickly turned the vehicle around and sent his wife to Bangkok-Pattaya hospital. The gunman in the Vigo escaped in the Sattahip direction.

Later Mr.Morten drove his wife from the hospital to the police station to file a report.

Ms. Khanittha confirmed that the cause of the shoting was not related to any personal matters because she and her husband never had quarreled with anyone.

The police inspected the Fortuner, which had bullet holes on the left front door and on the rear door, totally five bullet holes. On the ground near the police found five bullet casings, caliber 11 mm.

A witness, Mr. Chaiya Janaksorn age 64, the security guard at Sirisa 9 village near the shooting incident, said that as he was sitting in the sentry box in front of the village he heard several gun shots. He was too scared to see what was going on, so he waited and later walked over to see what had happened but didn’t see anyone shot or injured.

Pattaya police assumes that the gunman, the driver of the Vigo pickup truck, could be a thug who always carries a gun and when he was cut off by the Norwegian, the Vigo driver became furious and started shooting.

The police will examine the CCTV footage at the traffic lights nearby in order to trace the gunman of the pickup truck.

@austenyshus, driving a car in Thailand is at least safer than catching public transport or walking on the streets of Phuket as the recent stabbing of an Australian travel agent proves. Personally, I drive a car everywhere in Thailand and NEVER use public transport both for my own safety and convenience. I have never had any problems on the road and never had an accident in Thailand or any regional country either.

Come on Rob . . . you have never been cut off but a Thai driver ? Driving in Pattaya is 10 times worse than driving in Bkk.People don't use lights at night.Don't understand that a oneway road means ONE way.Never use signals before making a turn and all busses zigzag in all the lanes.Bad driving is a part of Thai culture but guns ? Why are ther so many guns used in Pattaya ?

Serve the Norwegian guy right, he should have had more brains. I always find Fortuner and Vigo drivers are the most arrogant and pushy drivers on the road, and this does a good job of confirming it.
