Bangkok Police Arrests Khmer Human Traffickers for Child Abduction

The Anti-Human Trafficking Division team arrested a Cambodian couple for kidnapping a child to be a beggar

BANGKOK – May 8, 2012 [PDN]; Pol.Maj.Gen. Chawalit Sawangpuech Commissioner of Anti-Human Trafficking Division (AHTD) said that they had arrested Mr.Rom San 50-years-old and Mrs. Pad Sarn 36-years-old, Cambodian citizens for human trafficking and illegal immigration.

They were with charged with abducting his ex wife’s son to become a beggar. The couple was arrested at a rental room in Klongsakae, Pattanakarn Road, Suanluang district, Bangkok.

After the AHTD team was informed by Mrs.Anguan a 33-years-old Cambodian that her son, “Nung” (nick name) 5-years-old was abducted by Mr.Rom, her ex husband, who forced the child to became a beggar.

The child “Nung” was abducted two years ago. She had reported the case to the police and searched for the child but to no avail.

In the meantime after being contacted by the Children and Women foundation, the AHTD team found the child with long, blonde dyed hair sitting cross legged, poorly dressed and begging in front Ramkamghang University. The police tracked the couple and detained them.

The couple confessed, they said that they always left the child in front of Ramkamhang University. The couple had have been arrested and deported multiple times but they always returned.

Pol.Maj.Gen. Chawalit said that AHTD and the police would take strong action to prevent and control human trafficking and beggars especially in popular tourist areas. Priorities Bangkok and Phuket.
