Pol Lt-Gen Viboon Bangthamai, Immigration Police commissioner, told a news conference that the authorities searched a house in Lak Si district and arrested Prasertsri Sompoj, a Thai national, who told police that he was harbouring the Taiwanese.
Thirteen Taiwanese scammers were also arrested. Police seized six computers, 17 phones, three mobile phones, and modems to access the Internet.
The suspects operated a call centre here for two months telling the victims they had committed fraud or crimes and then asking information about their victims’ financial transactions with banks to deceptively tell them to transfer their funds to the gang’s bank account.
The suspects received 30 per cent commissions on the transferred money, Gen Viboon said.
They were charged with unlicensed work in Thailand as there are no direct victims in the case, Gen Viboon said. The detainees will be deported, he aaded.
