PHITSANULOK – April 25, 2012 [PDN]; A fire was reported burning under the ground covering an area of 400 square meters. The fire burned the feet of the locals and a cow, cats and dogs were reported to have been killed by the underground fire.
The officer of Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Phitsanulok province and the officer of Environmental Office Section 3 went to inspect the site at Moo 9 Baan Nerntanon, Tambon Nongkatao, Amphur Nakornthai, Pitsanulok province.
At the location beside the Nakornthai-Dansai road the fire was still burning in the ground. The officials discovered the corpses of a burned cow, dogs, and cats.
Also three local people were injured with burns on their feet. A sawmill used to be located in the area and it is assumed that a lot of saw dust had accumulated under the ground and with increased earth temperatures the saw dust self ignited causing the fire.
After the fire was reported the officer of the Subdistrict Administrative Organization Tambon Nongkatao had to block off the “fire” area by ropes and put up a warning poster: “Do Not Enter, Dangerous Area! ”. Related agencies have been contacted to investigate the cause of this unusual fire.
