CHONBURI, 16 April 2012 -The water-splashing fun lives on, with Wan Lai Day, Pattaya's version of Songkran Festival, being held from April 18th -20th. All hotel rooms have reportedly been booked up quickly and the city is expected to generate up to 2.5 billion baht in revenue.

Pattaya Mayor Mr. Ittipol Khunpluem said both Thai and foreign tourists can expect to see a spectacular water hologram projection, live local performances and concerts on 27 different stages located across North and South Pattaya roads.

The event is a joint cooperation between private and public sectors as well various associations in Pattaya. Out of concerns for safety, revelers are forbidden from using high-pressure water guns and powder this year. The first activity to kick off Lai Day will begin in the morning of April 18th at Na-Kluea Public Park.

Visitors can participate in the alms giving ceremony or pay respect to the elderly invited to join this special occasion by pouring water onto their hands. A floral parade with a Buddha statue will take place on the following day at Chaimongkul temple, which is located in South Pattaya.

On April 20th, a local tradition of Chonburi called ‘Kong-Koa’ will also be held in Na-Kluea Public Park. Roads along the beach will be closed to traffic from Dusit Resort all the way to South Pattaya in a walking street theme. 1,200 security officers will be deployed through out the event to keep peace and direct traffic on the roads.
