Latest update on the case is that the siblings of the owners of Sriprapat Market, Mr.Veera and Mrs. Nanta Sriprapat reported to the Sheriff that a group of thieves had invaded their Plutaluang Plaza Department Store, that was under construction and stolen its air conditioning system, electrical distributer system ,and numerous kinds of electrical equipment that had been installed in the building. Approximately 100 items had been stolen valuing 20 Million THB. The owner stated that his department store had been built 2 years ago, but then the economy had collapsed, so he halted the project and closed the department store to wait for the recovery of the economy. He had not hired any security guards to keep an eye on it, because he thought that it was in the middle of the market community and there were many shops and houses in the vicinity.
Mr.Chaicharn Iamcharern, Sattahip Sheriff,, stated that after he had investigated the crime scene, the thieves must have been a gang of 5 or more persons and that the gang were clearly brazen and not afraid of being caught. At first he suspected that the gang had someone inside that was aware of the owners and the local residents movements, which allowed the gang to pick the most opportune time to break in and steal all the valuable items in relative safety. He further stated that he had contacted the village headmen and cooperated with the NCCD Sattahip, to search for more evidence and to assist in the arrest of the brazen thieves.
Pol.Lt.Capt. Somsak Ruying- Service Render Inspector of Plutaluang Police Station, stated that after the theft, Police Officers had trailed the gang and after they had received a report that there was a suspicious vehicle heading towards Rayong. In the rear of the pick-up truck was iron cutting equipment and an iron handrail, so the Police followed the vehicle. Police officers from Banchang Police Station, Rayong, stopped the suspect vehicle, which was damaged from its quick getaway and collision with the stationary vehicles around the Department Store. The Police Investigation Team attended the scene and upon questioning the suspects they confessed that they were the gang who had stolen electrical equipment from the department store.
