Pattaya, December 21, 2011[PDN]; Pol. Maj. Gen. Thara Poonnasri, Deputy Commissioner, The Director the Center of Protection of Intellectual Property , Pol. Col. Theeraphol Jindaluang, Deputy Superintendent, Chonburi province and Pol. Col. Nantavuth Suwanlaorng, Superintendent Pattaya police arrested the owners and staff of many mobile phone shops on the second floor of Tukcom Pattaya, South Pattaya selling copy mobile phones. The value of the seized knock-off mobile phones is 1.6 million THB.
The police raided the second floor the department store, the IT zone selling, illegal copied mobile phones and equipment to foreign and Thais.

At the crime scene the police found 100 mobile phone shops and many of them selling copied mobile phones and other IT equipment all counterfeit. The police arrested the owners from two shops and sixteen employees. They also seized 610 knock-off mobile phones worth more than 1.6 million THB. The most popular fake brands were: Apple iphone 4, Nokia, Samsung, Blackberry etc. All looking genuine. Most of them were produced in China and they were all much cheaper than the genuine mobile phones sold by authorized dealers. Prizes starting from 1,000-3,000 THB. After the arrest the 16 suspects were detained at the police station with the seized communication equipment as evidence.

The suspects confessed that they had bought the phones from a “big” agent in Bangkok and sold them to customers in Pattaya most of them foreigners. The police charged the suspects with trade mark infringement, selling fake mobile phones. The suspects will be investigated and prosecuted according to the law.
