Sattahip Navy Man’s Pickup Hits 3 Bikes 2 Severly injured

A pickup truck collided with three motorbikes disobeying the traffic rules, five people were injured and two of them severely.

Sattahip, November 26, 2011[PDN]; Pol. Maj. Pornchai Kingsawat, investigating officer of Plutaluang police station, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province was notified that there had been an accident and many people injured, the incident occurred on Sukhumvit road km. 181/200 route Sattahip-Rayong in front of the Navy House village Moo 7 Tambon Plutaluang, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi provice.

At the scene of the accident the police found a blue Isuzu D-max 4 pickup truck, license plate KOR NOR-455 Chonburi, under the truck there was a grey-black Honda Way 110, license number 544 Khonkaen and a blue Honda Scoopy-i, license number KHOR KHOR KHOR– 440 and nearby there was a severely damaged bicycle.

In total five people were injured; Mr. Samlong Surarum age 33, Mrs. Thippawan Kittikulvanich age 67, Mr. Vayu Hatrawan age 35, Mrs. Vaewta Hatrawan age 34 and Mr. Sayun Paokratok age 33, Mr. Samlong and Mrs. Thippawan were severely injured.

The rescue team sent all of them to Queen Sirikit hospital in Sattahip.

The pickup truck driver, Petty Officer 1st class, Command unit of the Marine Corps Vichit Phuduangduen age 30 was taken to Plutaluang police station.

The witness, Ms. Siriwan Naaek, age 21, said that she saw the pickup truck drive slowly on the side of the road and then increased speed in the direction of Rayong province and at the moment of the accident two motorbikes and one bicycle appeared from the opposite direction and caused the collision.

Petty Officer 1st class Vichit Phuduangduen, the pickup truck driver, apologised to the victims and explained that at the moment of the accident he was driving slowly preparing to be in the left lane in the direction of Rayong province, he saw in his side mirror that the road was clear, no cars following so he increased his speed without noticing that the two motorbikes and a bicycle were coming from the opposite direction.

Sounds like the motorcycles and bicyclist, did what so many do in Thailand, going on the wrong side of the road (in wrong direction), I've seen many cars , trucks, and police cars doing this, must be a new law in Thailand that makes it ok to do this. The real problem is nobody does anything about it, now the truck driver has to pay the price, he was obeying the law, at least in my account of this accident.
