Heavy Rains Batter Sattahip – Flash Floods Cause Traffic Jams

Heavy non-stop downpours lasting four hours were repored on the Eastern Seabord of Sattahip causing flooding in many areas and massive traffic jams on Sukhumvit highway.

Sattahip, October 7, 2011[PDN]; Since Friday afternoon Sattahip area, Chonburi province was battered by continous heavy rains lasting more than four hours and causing a massive traffic jams on Sukhumvit highway, Sattahip-Rayong sector. A five kilometer long traffic jam resulted from the high water level blocking the left lane. This was due to the falling water from the hills and mountains which could not be releases into the sea on time. The officers and staff of the emergency relief agency in Sattahip provided heavy duty water pumps to release the water masses.

Sattahip Police assited the motorists stuck on Sukhumvit highway with only one lane open for traffic.Flooding was also reported in sois and and small roads causing flooding in people’s homes. More than 20 houses were affected, especially those residing in Soi Loongphoe and Soi Yenruedee in Sattahip. The rains are expected to subside and the situation should return to normal, soon. However, all road users should proceed with caution to prevent accidents.
