Pattaya Flooding After Heavy Downpours Last Night

Share
Pattaya, October 7, 2011[PDN]; Last night heavy continuous rains were reported in Pattaya and nearby areas. The flooding was caused by flood water being dumped into the lower lying areas causing hardship for tourists and locals.

Upon inspection of the area in Soi Wat Boonsumpun and Soi Khao Noi, Central Pattaya the City Hall officials found the level of flood water higher than 50 cm making if hazardous for passenger cars to drive through. Some of the vehicles stalled in the flood water and there were engine damages caused by water splashed up into the engine compartment. The roadside houses and the shops had to use logs and sand bags to block the high water.

Pattaya City co-ordinated with the team from Sawangboribul Foundation and all available units were mobilised to assist the people impacted from the flooding. So far, there has not been any reported injuries or dead.

What you describe as a" heavy downpour " would be, to a well organized beach resort, merely a "shower". The difference is that, in the other world, they realize that the rains are an act of god but what you do with those rains is an act of government.
25-30 years of,favoritism,job
"selling/trading", nepotism, has left all of Thailand with people in positions without a clue as to their responsibilities.
Who was responsible for issuing building permits with no consideration for drainage ?,who
was responsible for scheduled drain cleaning ?,who was responsible for clearing overgrown vegetation from canals ?
Yes God sent the rain but the supposed "officials" in charge, who could have, long ago, minimized the loss of life/property hadn't done their jobs and furthermore were not prepared for the aftermath of their negligence.
A claasic, gold medal winning example, of the "right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing "

What you describe as a " heavy downpour " would ne merely a shower in places with proper flood prevention/control which none of Thailand has. Yes, the rain was an act of god but dealing with it is an act of
government.
Many/most of the officials appointed to positions supposed to deal with problems like this,
were awarded their jobs for a number of reasons none associated with background/education/competency or ability.
This is the result of 25 years of favoritism/tea money/nepotism and, general corruption in the work place with no end in sight.
