Hanoi’s Flower Festival 2012 to highlight lotus

The annual Hanoi Flower Festival will take place from December 30 to January 2 to celebrate the 2012 New Year, according to vice director of the capital’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

The festival’s theme will be Flower Heritage, featuring Vietnam’s world heritages as designated by UNESCO including Giong Festival, Thang Long Royal Citadel, the Temple of Literature, and ca tru (an ancient genre of chamber music in the north).

In addition, the sixth annual event will also highlight other cultural heritages and sites, including Ha Long Bay, Ho Dynasty Citadel, My Son Holy Land, Hue royal music, and Central Highlands gongs.

The festival will take place on several streets in Hanoi including Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thai To, Le Lai, Le Thach and at Ly Thai To flower garden and Hoan Kiem Lake.

It will include flower models, a flower stage for performances and a distinguished area for a lotus exhibition.

The opening night on December 30 will include a bamboo flower parade, folk games festival and the final day will highlight an art performance of lotus at Ly Thai To flower garden.
