Suspected Russian Tax Evaders and Money Launderers Arrested in Pattaya

Two escaped Russians suspected for tax evasion and money laundering were arrested in Banglamung.

Immigration Bureau, July 20, 2011[PDN] ; Pol. Lt.Gen.Wiboon Bangthamai, Commissioner of Immigration Bureau and his team released the news of the arrest of Mr Valery Bovsun, 38 and Mr Andrey Ustinov, 40, Russians nationals who had escaped from Russia to Thailand. They were suspected of tax evasion and money laundering.

Pol. Lt.Gen.Wiboon stated that the arrest resulted from the information the Thai police received from the Russian international police that the two suspects had committed tax evasion and money laundering offences in Russia from 2006-2010. Thereafter they escaped to Thailand.

The lost value amounts to circa 25 million USD. or 750 million THB. The police searched the suspects and found that Mr Valery and his Russian wife were residing in Banglamung at 20/ 149 Moo 11, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi since June 2010. Mr Valery was arrested at Bunkanjanaram Temple in Nongprue on July 17, 2011. Mr Andrey, he arrived in Thailand on September 4, 2010 and resided at 16/155 Moo 10 in Nongprue. Mr Andrey also started a business in Pattaya. He was arrested on July 13, 2010.

The police detained the suspects before sending them back to Russia for prosecution.
