Young Chinese Tourist Drowns on Ko Lan Island

A 24-year-old Chinese tourist drows on Tavan Beach, Ko Lan. The police assumes that his death was caused by an underlying disease.

Pattaya, July 12, 2011 [PDN], Pol. Lt. Col. Preecha Sumrit, Pattaya Police, was informed of a drowning of a Chinese tourist on Tavan Beach at Ko Lan in Naklue, Banglamung. Officer Preecha along with his team and Pattaya Sawangboriboon rescue team rushed to the scene by speed boats.

At the scene, the police found the body of Mr Chendao Yong, 24, a student of Hunan university, China. His body was pale and no injuries was found on his body. The police and the rescue team assumes that he had died approximately less than one hour ealier.

Mr Somchai, 50, the guide of the victim’s tour group, reported to the police that the victims group, more than ten persons had arrived in Thailand on July 9 and would depart from Thailand on July 15. Before the incident he took the tourists by boat from Pattaya to Tavan Beach at Ko Lan island. The tourists were swimming and relaxing on the beach. Later on he heard that the victim had died from drowning.

Mr Somchai Maneechote, 41, municipal officer at Ko Lan island reported to the police that he was told by a European boy that a tourist had drowned. He informed the sea rescue officer who found the victim lying prone on the beach only half a meter from the sea.

The police assumes that the death of the victim was caused by an underlying disease. A shock might have caused his drowning. However, his body would be taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy. The Chinese Embassy would also be contacted.
