Pattaya police arrested a Slovakian man who was allegedly accused of stealing an unlocked safe and a suitcase.

Pattaya,27 May 2011 [PDN]: at 1.00 am, Police Lieutenant Pullop Ringrod (Pattaya Deputy Police Investigator) was called to investigate a theft occurring at Paragon Soi, North Pattaya.

Police officer Songtham Nak Sawas reported that he had detained a foreigner who was allegedly accused of stealing a safe and a suitcase.

The Slovakian suspect, Junas Peter, 42 was found with a safe wrapped in a plastic bag and a suitcase containing several tools such as a screw driver, a chisel and a hammer, an officer said adding that they also found many house keys and a pair of plastic gloves.

The foreigner looks even more suspicious when the number plate of his Honda Click motorcycle was disguised by cartoon stickers, the officer continued.

The police did not believe Junas’ story that his friend had hired him to deliver the safe to a hotel in Soi Buakow.

Junas was taken back to the police station for further questioning.

A special unit opened the safe and discovered a gold ring, several credit cards, a Kasikorn Bank book and documents of a Swiss national named Michael Paul Tanner.

The police contacted Mr. Tanner who came two hours later to claim his safe and suitcase.According to Michael, he discovered his safe and suitcase missing after he returned to his hotel room from a night out with his friends.

He immediately filed a police report, Michael said.

In the presence of Michael, Junas Peter finally confessed that he had committed the theft because he needed money to pay for a new passport, which has expired due to his overdue stay in Thailand.

Junas Petter will be charged with theft and illegal residency in Thailand with an invalid passport
