On 25 May 2011, Police Colonel Sak Rapee Laem Chabang (Police Superintendent) was informed of a fire explosion occurring at the pier in Laem Chabang B3, Sriracha.
The fire started at one of the large chemical vessels docking at the pier, the fireman commented.
It then spread to more than ten other vessels which were to be transported on a ship called Mol Aqua Japanese, police reported adding that there were over 200 containers docked at Laem Chabang pier.
Sriracha Municipality, Chao Surasak Municipality, Pattaya City Municipality and over ten other vehicles joined in the fire rescue.
The intensity of the fire had brought to the attention of significant figures in the area including Sriracha Governor, Mr Wichai Sampantara; Laem Chabang Preservation Survival Mayor, Mrs. Jinda and Mr. Phusit Chamsri from Permanent Laem Chabang Municipality.
They all came down to see the burning fire and the damage it has caused, a fireman said.
Nearby cargoes and boats were all transported away from the scene, while people were evacuated from the explosion and away from the toxic chemical odour that may cause dizziness and dry throats, the police said.
Based on the screening investigation, the cargo aircraft moved into Port B4 (Evergreen Co. Ltd.) at around 7.00pm.
While the ship was parking in the area of Port B3, there was explosion noises that sounded three times, a witness said.
One of the security guards said they were ordered to stand by until it was safe to approach the scene.
