Pattaya, 21 May 2011 [PDN]: Based on their investigation, the police discovered that a pregnant woman was in charge of an underage prostitution scandal which targeted Pattaya tourists. In order to expose the crime, Chonburi police of Region 2 and Police Suppression of Human Trafficking conducted an undercover operation where 1,500 Baht was paid for the service.
The appointment was arranged in room 3016, third floor of Paragon Place Apartment, located behind the popular ‘Puk Boong Loi Fah’ restaurant on North Pattaya Road.
A two-months-pregnant Thai woman, Panthippah Kumpan, 26 arrived with a 14-year-old girl, Miss A or Alias.
Panthippah left Miss A with a foreign customer and walked down to the lobby, where the police made the arrest after exposing their secret operation.
Meanwhile another group of police rushed to room 3016 where the teenager was found sitting on the bed with only a towel wrapped around her body, the police reported.
Panthippah admitted that she was guilty of all accusations and that she desperately needed the money to pay for her abortion.
According to Panthippah, when the girl’s mother, Jiraporn Sa-Ngop, 26 of Rayong contacted her and offered to pay 500 Baht to find a service for Miss A, she accepted the deal.
The police questioned Jiraporn after Panthippah phoned her.
Jiraporn told the police she needed 13,000 Baht to pay for the bail that an agent had paid for her after she was arrested when 13 watches were missing at her work place in Royal Plaza.
She decided to sell her daughter to earn money and pay for her debt, Jiraporn said adding that her daughter already served a customer on 20 May.
Miss A told the police that she agreed to her mother’s arrangement because she wanted to help her mother paying off her debt.
The teenager was reportedly raped by her cousin when she was nine years old and dropped out of school in year 6, the police said.
The girl was sent to a paediatric rehabilitation centre with a social worker.
Meanwhile Panthippah was charged with conducting prostitution services for underage girls and human trafficking.
The girl’s mother was temporarily released until a court’s arrest warrant was obtained
