The huai siao or “pleasure lottery” is a draw of many 30-Baht tickets, betting on the last two digits of the winning number in Thailand’s government lottery.
The winning prize is a night in bed with a young woman, whom could be claimed at one of the two participated hotels.
At the hotels, winners are given the freedom to choose from a selection of at least 10 beautiful women aged 18-25 as shown in a booklet, police explained.
Some of these women are factory workers themselves, police add.
Players could also purchase a “VIP tickets” valued at 100 Baht each with the winning prize of a night with attractive women, who are claimed to be university students.
Dr. Jiraphan Phimphan, Chairman of the Ayutthaya Pronvincial Cultural Council is disgusted by this ‘sex lottery’ concept.
“It is a disgrace to put a value on these women at just 30 Baht each,” Dr. Phimphan comments.
Ayutthaya Chairman fears that the ‘sex lottery’ could destroy the reputation of Thailand’s central province.
On April 1, police raided the two participated hotels, arresting four young women and a man, who was involved in the lottery.
Ayutthaya City Police Superintendent Col, Narinat Phutthaisong said the suspects would be charged with soliciting and selling sex.
The police are increasing their force to investigate and arrest the ‘sex lottery’ sellers, Mr. Phutthaisong adds.
