Police said a man identified as Thada Intamart first stabbed 2nd Lt Vichai Wilairasami and took his car in suburban Bangkok’s Nonthaburi province and headed for Dusit district in the capital.
Pol SrSgt-Maj Likasit Pirasri of Dusit police station tried to arrest the man but was stabbed and shot. The officer died later while being sent to hospital.

Mr Thada continued driving the stolen car toward Sri Ayutthaya Road. While on his way, he abruptly stopped a taxi and shot dead the driver.
In a frenzy, the man stopped a sedan being driven by a woman, whom he stabbed, forcing her to sit with him. Driving further he hit and injured another police officer, identified as Pol SrSgt-Maj Jiroj Boonthongkam, near Victory Monument.
Pursuing police decided to shoot at the frenzied man and killed him.

According to police, Mr Thada’s family said he was a computer technician and that he had been arrested earlier on charges of drunken driving. Described as a drug addict with large debts, he reportedly became violent when his elder sister refused to lend him money.
