Thai government has returned the budget of 600 million Baht, plus an additional 300 million Baht to the U-Tapao Airport project, which is estimated to become one of the most modern international airports in the Eastern region of Thailand.

Pattaya, 5 April 2011 [PDN]: At 5 a.m., the government has granted a new budget of 900 million Baht to renovate U-Tapao Airport, after 600 million Baht was withdrawn from the project in March this year.

The Chairman of Tourism and Recreation of Pattaya Council, Mr. Rattanachai Suthidechanai announces that the renovation has been resumed with the support of Mr. Athipon Kunpluem, the Mayor of Pattaya City, public and private sectors.

Ascon Construction Public Company Limited is managing the development of U-Tapao Airport.    The project is estimated to complete within 555 days by September 2012.   The new airport will be administered by Airport of Thailand.

The 965 million Baht resource will be distributed between the rebuilding of airport terminals and runways.  400 million Baht will be spent on the reconstruction of terminal stations, which would be inspired by Pissanuloke Airport.  The remaining budget of 500 million Baht will be used to build airport runway and other related equipment.

With higher capacity, charter flights from many countries such as Russia and Laos will land at U-Tapao Airport more frequently, Mr. Rattanachai added.

Mr. Rattanachai expects U-Tapao Airport will become one of the most modern international airports in Thailand, and hence expanding the tourism and economic industry in the Eastern region.

Well, you could say about time. This airfield is ideal for Pattaya's tourism but actually, it will be a shame in some ways. More tourists equals less wild open spaces and more congestion.
