Pattaya, 12th March 2011 [PDN]: At 11 p.m., Chonburi Social Order Taskforce led by Mr. Preeda Somboonsup Assistant Governor of Chonburi teamed with the police officers. Around 120 members altogether- dividing into 2 groups, inspected two pubs located in Pattaya city without any advance notice.
The first police team was responsible for Differ Pub (located on Pettrakoon Rd, North Pattaya) and the second one was for Hollywood Pub (about 1 km away from the first pub). There were many people at the pubs since it was the weekend. Police closed all exits, while DJ and bands were ordered to stop playing. The police force thoroughly searched the premises for illegal drugs and weapons as well as conducting drug tests.
Many people were alarmed by police’s actions and hence screamed out spontaneously. Fortunately no dangerous incidents occurred.

After investigation, the police discovered that these pubs permitted visitors entrance even though they did not have ID cards. Police fined these customers 200 Baht each, then released them. Police also found many intoxicated teenagers, who were later taken to Banglamung Hospital for drugs testing before being charged.
Mr. Preeda Somboonsup revealed that this cooperated force was assigned by Mr. Wichit Chartpaisit, the Governor of Chonburi. The governor ordered every District Chief Officer of Chonburi to inspect pubs, whether it was about ID cards, involvement with drugs and teenagers or not.
The officers chose the pubs around Pattaya City because these were very famously known among Thai visitors and foreigners all around the world. Such action aimed to provide social order, prevent crimes and drugs problems. Officers planned to investigate target areas further.
