Karl Erik Berglund [60], a Swedish national was charged on multiple counts of sexual abuse after having had sexual relations with underage boys in Pattaya, Thailand. Along with two other foreigners, Mr. Berglund was arrested and remanded in custody in 2009

Pattaya, 1st March 2011:[PDN], on the 1st March 2011, at 12.46 pm The Bangkok Criminal Court adjudicated the Swedish pedophile, Mr.Karl Erik Berglund , [60] defendant guilty having sex with a boy named C[Alias], aged 13, Mr.Karl was sentence for 4 years for an offense under criminal law, Section 277 base molesting children. Up to 4 years old.

According to PDN reported on the 12th May 2009,Pattaya police arrested three European men, all in their 60s, on charges of sexually abusing minors.

At 3.00 pm, Police Colonel Suwitpol Imjairat, Deputy Commissioner of CWD [the Children, Juvenile and Women Division of the Crime Suppression Division of the Central Investigation Bureau] and his team announced the arrest of three men, charged with molesting a child under the age of 15.

The suspects were George Stanley Gibbs, 67, from the UK, Karl Erik Berglund, 60, and Lars Anders Ellerman, 65, both from Sweden. They were arrested at house no. 404/118 Moo. 12, house no. 433/919 and house no. 20/150 all located in Moo. 12 Nongprue, Banglamung.

The arrests were part of a joint investigation, codenamed “Snapper”, carried out by the Royal Thai police and the Scandinavian and European authorities.

The police said the suspects had been under surveillance since April 2009. They had abused a total of 7 boy victims [all under 15] before an arrest warrant was requested from the Pattaya court. Police also said they had evidence to arrest another 7 suspects, mostly of Swedish nationality, and a Thai man who procured the young boys. Two suspects have managed to escape from Thailand. One tourist and the Thai man named “Pan” [real name unknown] are being hunted by the police.

The suspects had co-operated with the police but further details could not be given until the cases had been filed with the prosecutors. If found guilty, the men could face up to 20 years in jail.

Mr.Karl Erik Berglund hired a lawyer from a firm located in Soi R, Moo.10, South Pattaya. Miss Wanida [alias], who runs the legal practitioners, had tried to bail her client out of remand more than 10 times, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
