Citizens of Pattaya had gathered in the early morning of 1st January to make merit in an annual religious ceremony attended by monks from local temples.

Pattaya, 1st January 2011 [PDN]: On the beach in South Pattaya, Pattaya executives, merchants and citizens gathered early in the morning to make merit, giving rice and dry food as part of a traditional first day of the New Year ceremony. More than 20 monks from Bunsumpun and Khao Magog temples were present to receive the
rice and hold the prayer and blessing ceremonies to bring good luck to the people. A similar ceremony was held in Naklua, at the Suan Sathanalaanpo Park.

This year’s ceremony, which is an annual event to give people a chance to take part in religious activities and give blessings and good luck to themselves and their families, attracted far more participants than last year.
