Police Conduct Purge Of South Pattaya To Ensure Safety Of Tourists
Pattaya, 15 December 2010 (PDN): At 1.00 am on Wednesday Lieutenant Colonel Arun Phromphan, Chief Inspector of the Pattaya Tourist Police, lead a team of investigators and tourism police volunteers to purge the south Pattaya area of beggars, street hawkers, prostitutes and other individuals deemed to be a nuisance and a threat to tourists. The operation was carried out along Pattaya Beach, Walking Street and in the South Pattaya area.
The police taskforce arrested several people in the following categories: illegal flower sellers (30 suspects arrested), illegal possession of protected wildlife (1 suspect arrested with a python snake), illegal aliens (4 suspects arrested) and a lady boy prostitute gang (11 suspects arrested.) All were detained for questioning and were put on display at the ensuing press conference.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Arun Phromphan revealed that the Police Central Investigation Bureau Commissioner Lieutenant General Phongphat Chayaphan had ordered the clean up to maintain the security of the city’s tourists. The safety of Pattaya’s visitors had also been the prime concern of Major General Adit Ngamjitsuksri, Commissioner of the Tourist Police.
The aim of this latest purge was to remove all those individuals that were the source of nuisance and harassment for tourists, especially along Pattaya beach and Walking Street, and to project a positive image for the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Those arrested would be registered and checked for previous offenses, and then fined 100 – 200 baht, before being released with a warning.

I walked down there today and now, two days later, I discovered the little girl bouncing on her mother's knee is back in school getting a solid education majoring in linguistics; the katoey have come together and started up a jet ski business, and the snake girl has gone legit and now dances for the mayor at business lunches - just now with a smaller non-poisoness snake.
Great, useful operation, chaps. The only thing to beat inflation is to increase the prices due to exceptional circumstances. (???)
A better solution would be to deport them half-way to Koh Larn. At least it would keep them off the streets a bit longer.

Nothing worse in Pattaya than having to protect your wallet every 20 seconds when sitting in a bar having a chilling beer and those F%$#@*&n hawkers keep tapping you on the shoulder trying to sell their shit or rip your pockets off!,!
Thank god there are some sensible bar owners that just simply do not allow them onto their premise to annoy their punters!.
I know if I owned a business I certainly wouldnt allow anyone onto my premise trying to exert money from my punters!...I would want it all myself!!!!.

Why doesn't Pattaya give mandatory supervised community service for these petty repeat offenders?
Of course, the 100-200 baht will teach 'em a lesson and they will certainly not do it again. What a freaking joke ...
And if there is a real problem with those people, (I once complained to the "police" on walking street about a flower girl) they just smile and don't do anything anyway.

But I am very comfortable around the jet-ski mafia who have pulled knives on many tourists. They're all bark and no bite.
And the child porn DVD vendors outside of Starbucks are just a rumor.
A hundred baht fine will stop the flower children from committing any further acts of heinous aggression. That's for sure.
