Sattahip, 27 October 2010, [PDN]: The body of a Thai woman who apparently drowned in the sea near Khrua Suk Jai Restaurant, Na Jomtien, was carried to the beach by her waiter friend, who subsequently, notified police.

A response team was duly organized, consisting of Sawang Rodjanatham paramedics and police led by Police Lieutenant Anon Infong (Na Jomtien Police Investigator), arrived shortly after 6.30 pm on October 26 to find the body of Mrs. Ngamjit Suwanna [43], from Khonkaen upon the shore. On examination, she was found to be 3-months pregnant. Witnesses said that she had been found in knee-depth water, 10 metres from the beach.

Mr. Danai Kerdyaem [37] a waiter at Khrua Suk Jai Restaurant and friend of the deceased, subsequently told police that Mrs. Suwanna, was severely depressed because her foreign husband was in jail. Forced to live alone, she had regularly sought Mr. Danai ‘s company and had come to the restaurant on October 26 and had drunk a bottle of beer with him about 5pm, before telling him she was going for a swim. As the water was shallow, he said he had not initially been concerned.

However, 10 minutes later, noticing that Mrs. Suwanna was somewhat quiet, Mr. Danai said he had gone out into the sea to check on her and found her face down in the water. Assisted by several restaurant customers and staff, he had brought her ashore and attempted to revive her, but to no avail.

A police spokesman said the body of Mrs. Suwanna had been sent to Sattahip Hospital for an autopsy. He also said there were no signs of injury on the body and the initial assumption is that the woman may have suffered cramp, perhaps due to slight intoxication and drowned as a result.
