Pattaya, 23 October 2010 [PDN]: following a protracted surveillance operation against an illegal Hi-Lo gambling ring suspected of operating intermittently in Phratumnak Soi 4, police were alerted that the gang was actually in place on 23 October. The police accordingly organised an evening bust led by Police Colonel Nunthawut Suwanla-orng (Pattaya Police Superintendent) and Police Lieutenant Colonel Klitsakorn Thongin (Deputy).

Arriving at the scene opposite the Asia Hotel, Phratumnak, at 9.00pm, police found the gambling ring surreptitiously playing in shed set in bush land. At the shed’s entrance was a CCTV, which had been installed in order to keep a watch out for the police. Officers initially cut the CCTV cable and silently approached the semi-hidden shed. Looking inside they found a group of 40 gamblers who appeared to be playing Hi-Lo manically.
Somehow, most of the offenders managed to escape initially, exercising a starburst manoeuvre; however, due to swift police action, 28 of the gamblers, 23 males and 5 females, were soon apprehended. Police confiscated two CCTV cameras, a set of Hi-Lo equipment, a fan, and an alarm clock that were discovered in situ to be used as evidence before arresting all the offenders and taking them to the police station.

After a brief interrogation, police identified the ringleader, a Mr. Chalin Kanhorm [38] from Sakaeo. The incident was duly reported and the confiscated items held for evidence. All the suspects were charged with participating in an illegal gamble racket for money.
Police spokesman Colonel Suwanla-ong told press that the illegal gambling ring had been under surveillance for some time and police were just waiting for an opportune moment to catch the gang in the act.
