Depressed Elderly Thai Woman Jumps to Her Death in Jomtien

An elderly Thai woman is thought to have committed suicide by jumping from the 19th floor of a Jomtien condominium complex on Thursday.

Pattaya, the 21st of October 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 5:30pm on Thursday, Major Pratiphat Phoomlee (Dongtan Police Investigator) was notified of a suspected suicide at the View Talay 5 Condominiums off the Thappraya Road in Jomtien. A team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were dispatched to the incident.

At the scene, in front of the 20-floor condominium complex, officers discovered the deceased body of an elderly Thai woman, now known to be Ms. Duangphorn Jirakanwisan [66]. Ms. Jirakanwisan was lying in a pool of blood and had suffered a severely fractured skull.

A search of her body uncovered a current Thai identification card and an official card showing her to be a former duty assessment officer at the Revenue Department, both articles were kept by police as evidence.

In a statement to police, Ms. Jirakanwisan’s carer (nurse), Mrs. Suchada Plaignam revealed that she had been working for the deceased for approximately two-months and that she appeared to be a very lonely and depressed woman. Apparently, she often remarked how her son and daughter appeared not to care for her anymore.

According to the investigation report, Ms. Jirakanwisan detailed her sorrow and depression in a letter left in her lower level condominium, before she went up to the 19th floor of the building and jumped to her death.

Officers investigating the incident have since informed the relatives of the deceased, who have been asked to appear for questioning over the woman’s death.

As an afterthought why is this not a suicide?
Have the bib, not considered, that the carer made the old dear write the note, as she had recently been included in her will, for paying more attention to her than her blood relatives...?

If you all lived in Thailand for a longer time and took more notice of Thai customs you would have known that the 'finger pointing' is very common in Thailand. It happens with robberies, rapes and murders. It really doesn't matter if a Thai or foreigner does it. It's just a procedure. It's just used to point out the subject. It wasn't too long ago that Thai language newspapers stopped showing uncensored bodies on their front pages.

And so too the id**ot pointing at the body. It's considered rude in Thailand, or any polite society, to point at a person. How much more so in death. She's not some recovered stolen car found in a full, Big C parking lot. We're pretty sure she's the one in the photo who commited suicide without the finger.
