South Americans Implicated in High-profile Bangkok Burglaries

Four Colombian nationals have been arrested for their involvement in several high profile burglaries conducted on notable officials, dignitaries and wealthy Thai nationals in the capital of Bangkok recently.

Bangkok, the 19th of October 2010: Thai police on Tuesday arrested the four Colombians after they had been tracked by police over their involvement in several burglaries in Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

Identified as John Alexander Quintro [29], William Alexander Baquero [27], Ramos Forero Rene Francisco [30] and Leonardo Fabio Quintero Quinones [22], the four men are now thought to be part of a wider South American international crime gang operating in Thailand.

During the arrests, police seized 41 articles of evidence including 12 wristwatches, mobile phone, cameras, notebook computers and gold jewellery. The evidence has been estimated at approximately Bt800,000 in value.

Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) Deputy Chief Major-General Panya Mamen revealed that intelligence reports had uncovered some one hundred members of a Colombian crime gang having entered the Kingdom recently, at least one group appearing on a chartered flight from South America.

Maj-Gen Panya revealed that the criminals would enter the Kingdom before adapting their passports to fit that of other nationalities to avoid detection from authorities both local and internationally.

According to police reports, these fraudulent documents would be used in the rental of hotel rooms, houses, cars and a variety of other dealings relating to the propagation of their criminal activities, which include break-and-enter, grand theft auto and ATM robbery.

Maj-Gen Panya explained that the four arrest men were apprehended having been tracked by the CIB for a ‘period of time’. They were arrested after robbing the home of a Thai Interior Ministry Officials relative in Nonthaburi. Officers caught the gang after following them back to their hideout, where they stashed the stolen property.

Nice to see the Thai police cracking down on farang thieves, Too bad they don't do the same when Thais rob from farangs.

I had a ladder stolen a few days ago from two Thai guys on a motor bike , I took video surveillance evidence to The police that Evan shows the bike's plate number.

I wanted to file a police report and have the guys arested but the police refused me to file a report...
