A mother and her 4-year-old son have been reunited in Pattaya on Tuesday, after the pair had become separated while visiting the Muang Pattaya 8th School carnival in South Pattaya on Saturday.

Pattaya, the 12^th of October 2010 [PDN]: On Tuesday, Ms. Pranee Saetae [28] from Chantaburi presented herself to the Pattaya Police Station explaining that she was the mother of 4-year-old Master Warayut Thonguthai, who had been handed over to police on Sunday the 10^th of October. Ms. Saetae had lost her son while visiting Pattaya, learning of his whereabouts after witnessing an alert on the regional news.

According to a police statement made by Mr. Bunmee Srisuwan [43], a South Pattaya motorbike taxi driver, he and his colleagues had found Master Thonguthai wandering along the street outside South Pattaya’s Chaimongkol Temple at around 5:00pm on Saturday (9^th of October).

Mr. Srisuwan advised police that the toddler was crying, wet and covered in dirt when they found him wandering alone. He explained that he and his colleague took care of the boy for several hours, clothing and feeding him, while trying to search for his mother in the area. Allegedly, the boy had told them that he had come to Pattaya on the bus with his mom but had lost her while visiting the carnival at Muang Pattaya 8^th School, near the Chaimongkol Temple.

Searching for the boy’s mother until approximately midnight, Mr. Srisuwan presented the boy to the Pattaya Police Station at approximately 1:00am on Sunday, explaining the situation. Unsure whether the mother intended to abandon her child or not and with no reports of a missing child presented to police, Master Thonguthai was sent to the Chon-Buri Child & Family House in Baan Rong Poe and report was filed on the incident.

Ms. Saetae subsequently appeared at the police station to claim her son, more than 3-days after his disappearance, stating that she had heard news of her missing son broadcast on a regional television news network.

In a statement to police, Ms. Saetae revealed that she was a single parent taking care of her son at their Chantaburi home. The pair had allegedly travelled to Pattaya on Saturday in order to spend the day at the beach before returning home in the early evening. Ms. Saetae claimed that she had been separated from her son while browsing market stalls at the South Pattaya carnival.

According to her statement, she searched the immediate area for several hours before deciding to return to Chantaburi that evening on the last bus, as she did not have the money to spend the night in Pattaya. Ms. Saetae claimed that she had intended to go back and search for her son once she had got some money from her home, but witnessed the news report before returning to do so.

Officers have subsequently performed an identity check on Ms. Saetae confirming that she is in fact the biological mother or legal guardian of Master Thonguthai and permitted her to retrieve her son from the Chon-Buri Child & Family House. Police advised Ms. Saetae that she should have reported her missing child to police at the earliest point and warned her to be more vigilant in caring for him in future.
