Eriksson’s Leicester City FC Cruise to Victory in Thailand

Leicester one-week foray in Thailand has rendered success last night as the English Championship outfit, with new coach Sven Goran Eriksson, eased past a makeshift Thai national team at the Supachalasai Stadium in Bangkok.

Bangkok, the 10^th of October 2010: Following his appointment just over a week ago, Eriksson got off to a winning start as Leicester City manager with an entertaining 2-0 win over Thailand.

Coached by former Manchester United and England Captain Bryan Robson, Thailand’s side was a makeshift of national and under-23 squad members picked in preparation for the impending Suzuki Cup (ASEAN Championships).

Despite battling valiantly for large periods of the match, Thailand always seemed a little off the pace set by a frenetic, hard grafting Leicester City. In the end is took two first half goals from Martyn Waghorn (10^th minute) and Paul Gallagher (34^th minute) to settle the tie, albeit at a veritable canter.

Eriksson expressed delight at his first win in charge of the club and the way that the players performed. “It was a good game and I’m happy with the result,” he added after the match.

Thailand, on the back foot for much of the first half, bar a 40^th minute strike by forward Sarayoot Chaikamdee, which went wide they had little opportunities in front of the Leicester pegs. In the second period, a rejuvenated and more offensive team emerged creating several opportunities. However, no real clear-cut chances as they say.

Thailand coach Bryan Robson said his men did well but they looked exhausted after playing many games in the Thai Premier League, the League Cup and the FA Cup.

Regarding Leicester bid for Premier League promotion based on yesterdays match, Robson admitted, “Leicester are a strong team and I’m sure they can get back to the Premier League.”
