A young Cambodian woman has been killed early on Saturday as she was attempting to cross the Sukhumvit Road in Na Jomtien. The woman, a local hotel employee, was run down by a passing motorist who fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Pattaya, the 9th of October 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 3:30am on Saturday, Captain Sirisak Arunsri (Na Jomtien Police Investigator) was notified of a fatal accident along the Sukhumvit Road, around the 145km mark in Na Jomtien. A team of officers along with the Sawang Rodjanatham Foundation were dispatched to the incident.

At the scene, officers found the deceased body of Miss Jinda (full name unknown) [24], a Cambodian national. Miss Jinda was lying in the middle of the road having died from a suspected broken neck. Her boyfriend, Mr. Paisal Promsook [35] was also present at the scene in an inconsolable state.

In a statement to police Mr. Promsook, a local construction worker, explained that his girlfriend worked at a nearby hotel and that she had been attempting to cross the road to meet him after work. Allegedly, Miss Jinda, was struck by a speeding motorist, believed to be a white Honda Civic, dying on impact with the vehicle. The driver of vehicle did not stop after the collision.

Officers investigating the incident immediately closed the Sukhumvit Road in the immediate vicinity, but no sign of the offending vehicle was reported by police boxes in the area.

Investigations will now continue into the identity and whereabouts of the at fault driver, while Miss Jinda’s body has been sent to the Forensic Science Institute for a post-mortem examination.
