Stray Cow Causes Four Car Accident on Sukhumvit Road

Share
A large wandering cow has caused a three car accident along the Sukhumvit Road in Sattahip early on Wednesday morning. The cow reportedly died on impact with the leading vehicle, while the driver suffered only minor injuries.

Sattahip, the 6th of October 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 6:00am on Wednesday, Lieutenant Pitichon Tertkiatkul (Sattahip Police Investigator) was notified of an accident adjacent the Sattahip Market along Sukhumvit Road. A team of officers along with the Sawang Rodjanatham Foundation were dispatched to the incident to investigate.

At the scene, approximately 20-meters from the Sattahip Market, officers found a large cow lying dead in the right hand land approaching the Lighthouse Roundabout on Sukhumvit Road. Four cars, a late model Toyota Corolla sedan, a Honda CVR, a Toyota Hilux and an Isuzu pickup all in variously damaged states.

Through investigation officer found that the Toyota Corolla, driven by Lieutenant Junior Grade Anucha Warawan [65], had impacted with the stray cow while travelling along Sukhumvit Road. The other three vehicles involved, forced to brake heavily as a result of the initial accident, hit each other in the rear.

At present, no one from the surrounding areas has come forth as the owner of the cow, which was reportedly observed wandering along the roadside before attempting to cross at the scene of the accident.

In a statement to police, Mr. Warawan explained that he had not seen the cow until the last minute at which point he was unable to avoid the accident. The cow reportedly hit the late model Toyota in the center of the bonnet before shattering the windshield and dying instantly. Mr. Warawan was largely unhurt in the incident, suffering only minor injuries and shock.

The Sawang Rodjanatham Foundation have now removed the dead cow, which is now expected to be buried. According to police, a nearby Muslim-run slaughterhouse had refused to take the cow as it had died by means other than those accepted in their religion.

Meanwhile, Mr. Warawan expressed his anger that he would be responsible for both the repairs to his vehicle and the possible burial of the involved cow.

The owner of the cows leaves them out at night in that location. I've seen them there almost nightly for the past 5 or 6 months. Knew this was going to happen. Sad for the cow.

I can't understand why the cow owner has not shown up, he would have been compensated for the loss of his cow. Its always the drivers fault in Thailand.
I wish they hadn't blurred the image as it looks like my ex may have come to Pattaya for her hol's.
RIP Daisy

Looking at the car and the condition of the road I believe this was a flying cow. This type is very rare to see in Thailand. RIP Mr. Cow.

Regarding the attempt to hand the cow over to a local slaughterhouse; personally I would have thought such a facility would decline to accept meat deemed ‘road kill’ regardless of the religion of its owners.

I also find it sad, as a Thai and Buddhist, that a fellow national has chosen to announce his displeasure at the accident and resultant costs when not speaking of such complaints after the death of an animal is the better course of action, regardless of your true feelings and the validity of the claim.

Should it be shown that the car driver was driving without due care and attention he most surely would be guilty of a mooving traffic offence and should be udderly ashamed of himself.

I don't really think the cow will see a burial, some enterprising Thai will carve it up and sell the meat.
As for the Muslims not wanting it, their loss!!

Well I am sorry for the loss of the cow. My condolences to the cows family. May you rest in peace. As for the man who hit the cow my comments to you are grow up! A middle age man crying about the cost of repairing your car and the cows funeral. I can see that you are not a real Buddhist by those stupid uneducated comments. As for the comments regarding Muslims I ask that everyone here refrains from prejudice comments please!
