Thai Premier Denies Manhunt for any Political Opposition

During his weekly television and radio address, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva denied that he or his government were attempting to stifle political opposition in the nation by arresting and hunting down any proponents against his premiership.

Bangkok, the 3rd October 2010: The Thai premier reaffirmed that he had now ordered the Justice Ministry to study in detail whether all currently imprisoned anti-government activists were ‘genuine’ lawbreakers.

Speaking during his weekly national address the premier revealed that the Justice Ministry’s Rights and Liberties Protection Department to review 184 cases against political detainees to determine whether they had actually broken the law. The PM’s response is believed to be in relation to criticism that he was abusing his power to stifle political opposition.

Abhisit, due to leave for Belgium to attend an Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on Sunday, revealed that a Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday will consider the currently enforced emergency decree in place on Bangkok and 3 surrounding provinces.

The Cabinet meeting, to be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, will discuss security issues relating to the lifting of the decree, including numerous incidents designed to destabilise the government imposed emergency laws, namely a series of random bombings.

The Cabinet will also consider new appointments for chief of the Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) as it is widely expected that Mr. Thaugsuban will step down from the post in order to contest the Surat Thani by-election.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also revealed more stringent measures have been enacted at Thai land borders in an attempt to stifle the trafficking of weaponry into the Kingdom. The security increase comes as several of the recent Bangkok bombings are believed to have used foreign arms including Russian and Chinese grenades.

I just hope that when this dictator has to do a runner the UK dosnt shelter him and his family in there property they are allowed to own here unlike us in Thailand.
