Grieving Scot Accompanies Wife’s Body Back to Thailand

A Scottish man will make a heart rendering trip to Thailand later this month to take home the deceased body of his young Thai wife of three years.

Scotland, the 1st of October 2010: Scot, Nick Dalgarno [46] married 35-year-old ‘Jum’ in a Buddhist ceremony in Bangkok on July 21st 2007, with his bride flying to be with him in Scotland after being granted a residence visa in October of 2007.

In what has been a torrid 3 months for Mr. Dalgarno, with Jum admitted to hospital and later being diagnosed with what is believed to be tuberculosis amongst other health concerns, his beloved wife of three years was pronounced dead earlier this week.

It has been reported that Mrs. Dalgarno had been admitted to hospital for an operation and biopsy on a lump on her neck nine weeks ago. Accordingly the lump was deemed non-cancerous but concerns were there that she might have tuberculosis.

Mrs. Dalgarno was then readmitted to hospital after becoming ill, later losing consciousness with breathing difficulties. She is believed to have died from severe pneumonia and bleeding to the brain. Investigations into a possible depletion of her immune system over the withdrawal of rheumatoid arthritis medication she had been taking for five years are ongoing.

A Thai friend of the couple helped break the news to Jum’s mother in Thailand and to get consent to switch off her life support. In an emotional state, Mr. Dalgarno yesterday explained, “All her friends came to say goodbye in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Then I had some final moments alone with my beautiful wife, and lay beside her. She was still unconscious, but I know that I heard her say to me – ‘It is all right. I am ready so long as you take me home’.”

Mr. Dalgarno will now accompany his deceased wife’s body back to Thailand where he will attend a traditional Buddhist funeral with her relatives, before spending a week serving as a monk in a personal farewell tribute to his wife.
