Pattaya, the 1st of October 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 3:30am on Friday, Lieutenant Colonel Phatsa Detphakhul (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a foreigner’s death along the Pattaya Beach opposite Soi 6. A team of officers along with rescue services were dispatched to the incident.
On arrival at the scene officers found the half-naked body of a foreign man lying dead just off the Pattaya Beach. The man, dressed in swimming shorts and flippers, was thought to be in his early 40’s and was estimated to have been dead for approximately 3-5 hours.
Police investigations revealed that the man had been caught up on the rope of an abandoned boat anchor left in the Pattaya Bay, while on his possession was a business card from the D-Beach Hotel in nearby Soi 6/1. The mans body was subsequently removed from the water and transported to the Forensic Science Institute where a post-mortem examination will take place.

Officers investigating with the D-Beach Hotel revealed the mans identity to be that of Mr. Alzhanov Yermek [42], a Kazakhstan national. According to hotel records, Mr. Yermek had checked into the hotel on the 10th of September, recently extending his stay past his originally stipulated September 28th checkout date.
Staff report seeing Mr. Yermek leaving the hotel, dressed in swimming attire, at approximately 7:00pm on Thursday evening, merely 8-hours prior to the discovery of his deceased body.
At present, police speculate that Mr. Yermek had drowned in rough conditions, following inclement weather, out in the Pattaya Bay. He is thought to have become entangled in the abandoned boat anchor after his death.
The Kazakhstan Embassy has now been informed of Mr. Yermek’s death, while officers eagerly await the results of an autopsy report before continuing with investigations.
