An elderly Thai woman has been arrested along with 14 other offenders in a round up of criminals by Pattaya’s Banglamung Police Station on Thursday.

Pattaya, the 30th of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 11:00am on Thursday, Colonel Somnuk Junket (Banglamung Police Superintendent) held a press conference announcing the arrest of 15 criminal offenders as part of a police crackdown in Pattaya.

The crackdown is resultant from a directive by Lieutenant General Atsawin Khuanmueng (Police Region 2 Commissioner) to conduct investigations and arrest offenders known to police and registered in the local databases. Following the directive, Major General Thanet Pinmeung-ngam (Chon-Buri Provisional Police Commissioner) order the Banglamung Police Station to manage the situation and attain warrants for numerous suspects.

In the arrests, police seized 55.5g of Ya-Ice (crystal methamphetamine), 267 tablets of Ya-Ba (methamphetamine), one shotgun, one 9mm pistol, one .22 rifle, 37 football gambling slips, 4 mobile phones, a black Chevrolet vehicle, a grey Isuzu motorbike and an undeclared amount of money.

Arrested, along with 14 other offenders on numerous drugs, weapons and gambling related offences, was 62-year-old Mrs. Sangvian Hubsor. Mrs. Hubsor, needing a walking frame to attend the press conference, was arrested in possession of 27 tablets of Ya-Ba.

In an interview with reporters, Mrs. Hubsor stated that she had been forced into selling the illicit drug in order to provide for her 1-year-old and 4-year-old grandchildren, whose parents are believed to be incarcerated on similar drug distribution charges.

Mrs. Hubsor expressed her regret for committing a criminal offence, stating that she was forced into the dealings due to her age and ill health. In an emotional state, she revealed that the two children now have no one to look after them if she is imprisoned.

Officers have now remanded all 15 offenders in police custody awaiting further judicial proceedings to commence.

"an excursion for the purpose of pleasure at public expense"
