Share
Krispy Kreme Doughnut Inc has announced the opening of its first franchised-owned store in Thailand, with predictions of further expansion in the nation, reaching 20 stores by 2015. The flagship store is located at the upmarket Siam Paragon Shopping Center in the heart of Bangkok's business district.

Bangkok, the 28th of September 2010: The North Carolina-based Company’s subsidiary Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation, through franchisee KDN Company Limited, has opened the store. Majority owned/controlled by Ms. Ausanee Mahagitsiri, who with her family own and operate one of Thailand’s largest conglomerates, PM Group.

PM Group own/control interests in various stainless steel, shipping, fast-food and packaged goods companies, while the Mahagitsiri family holds a near 50% stake in Nescafe (Thailand), owns a golf course and has close affiliations with the now defunct Thai Rak Thai political party to which former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was leader.

The first Krispy Kreme store opening in Bangkok at the Siam Paragon Shopping Center signifies the company’s ambitions on international expansion, which have been significantly stepped-up from its traditional Northern America base since 2004. Krispy Kreme now have stores in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Dominican Republic, Kuwait, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Hong Kong (closed 2008), Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Bahrain and now Thailand.

Located in the heart of Bangkok’s business district, Krispy Kreme’s first store in Thailand is signified as the first step in a rapid expansion plan in the Kingdom, which will see the opening of more than 20 stores by 2015.

The first store in the nation with the Krispy-Kreme name opened in Charlotte Pike, Nashville, Tennessee in 1933. The company has since expanded to hundreds of store across the globe, employing over 3,000 staff and generating revenues in excess of US$400 million.

I'm a fan of doughnuts. Do'nt imagine too many Thais will pay 20 baht each though (per Dunkin donuts).

Thailand is its own enemy when it comes to foreign investment and work permits for Westerners. What amazes me is how Indians can perform all the work in thier own establisments with no penalties?

Gurditt Singh....what say you?

This is a capital idea! I, for one, am tired of seeing all the skinny, malnurished farangs with their shaved heads and tattoos wandering around in a dazed state with a blank look in their eyes. Reminds me of death camp survivors.
