Pattaya, the 26^th of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 5:00am on Sunday, Lieutenant Pachara Sansakuljit (Pattaya Deputy Investigator) was notified of an attempted suicide at the “Reun Manee Choke” apartments in Soi Weera, South Pattaya. A team of officers along with rescue personnel were dispatched to the incident to investigate.

Arriving at the scene, medical teams rushed to assist Ms. Ampikar Monchiengtai [23] who was found in a semi-conscious state in front of the apartment building. Comforted by her boyfriend, Mr. Watcharapat Kittehp [28], Ms. Monchiengtai was suffering from three severe lacerations across her wrist, which were bleeding profusely. After rendering immediate first aid, Ms. Monchiengtai was rushed to the Banglamung Hospital for treatment.

Interrogation of Mr. Kittehp revealed that Ms. Monchiengtai had attempted suicide in the couple’s second floor apartment before he had carried her downstairs after informing emergency services.

According to Mr. Kittehp, who works at a local bar in South Pattaya, he and Ms. Monchiengtai had been drinking at their room with his sister (name unknown) prior to the incident. Upon his sister’s departure, Mr. Kittehp explained that he and Ms. Monchiengtai had recommenced an intense argument from earlier on in the night, which ended with Ms. Monchiengtai locking herself in the apartment’s bathroom.

Reportedly, after waiting approximately 10-minutes, Mr. Kittehp broke into the bathroom, as Ms. Monchiengtai was no longer responding to his calls. He found her slumped on the floor having severely cut her wrist in three places with a razor. At this point Mr. Kittehp stated that he wrapped her arm in a crude bandage before calling his sister for assistance.

In addition, Mr. Kittehp explained to authorities that this was the third such time that Ms. Monchiengtai had attempted suicide, the two other occasions he had been at the scene to render assistance in similar circumstances.

Investigating officers filed a report on the incident, confiscating the razor blade as evidence.

Editor note: This case is typical of an average bargirls “emotional blackmail”, in most cases the argument goes no further than to provoke the other party into submitting in the argument, whatever the dispute. However, in extreme cases, often involving alcohol or drugs, we see life threatening situations like this occurring, often with disastrous consequences.

In situations like this, were both parties involved are ‘working class’ Thai’s with little money or standing to warrant any investigation, police will just drop the case or rather file it with no more investigation, other than that done at the scene, conducted.

In cases such as this, which involve a foreign subject, the story is remarkably different. The foreign man/woman will be required to undergo a full investigation in accordance with Thai law. If the said foreigner involved is then found not suspicious or has Thai friends who can assist him in dealing with the authorities, no action is taken. However, should he/she then be involved in a similar incident in future ‘costly’ action against the involved will almost certainly be taken, due to a prior record.

Unfortunately, no money means no sympathy and no investigation in these shocking but frequent incidents.
